Waymo claims: "“Waymo provides more than 250,000 paid trips every week in some of the most challenging driving environments in the U.S..."

But also: "The company operates more than 1,500 vehicles across Los Angeles, San Francisco, Phoenix and Austin."

So not in the snow, ice, winding mountain roads, or any really "challenging driving environment"... more like flat city streets, hilly city streets, a desert, and giant, flat, sunny roads.

I can't wait until all the alcoholics and elderly can get a self-driving vehicle.

Socioeconomics of drug addicts and the general stubbornness of the elderly strongly indicates these will be the last groups adopting self-driving vehicles.

I think once self-driving cars reach a pretty low popularity threshold, that there will be a lot of pressure to get the worst offenders out of driving. Maybe due to insurance costs if nothing else. Like, you get a DUI conviction, and your license is revoked for say 5 years (and no exceptions for driving to work). But people won't feel sorry for you, since it will just mean that you have to take an AV. Same for the elderly. If we revoke your drivers license automatically at 75, it just means you have to use an AV, instead of being a major loss of independence.
